Karen D. Nichols

Karen Nichols is an award-winning artist originally from Southern California where she was an artist and a teacher. Her work has been shown at:

· Oregon Pacific Bank
· Florence Chamber of Commerce
· Gallery Above the Silver Lining
· Frames of Florence
· Siuslaw and Mapleton Libraries
· Peace Harbor Hospital
· The Florence Events Center
She has won several awards at the FEC Celebrate the Arts, The Florence Rhododendron Festival Art Show, the Siuslaw Library, People’s Choice awards and is a Backstreet Gallery Artist. She is also a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon, FFRA and a board member of the Festival of Books (she designed their logo).
Her unique pieces are executed in a variety of media – bas-relief paper painting, sculptures, watercolor, ink, acrylics and photographs. She has a line of handmade and photographic greeting cards.
Karen is also an accomplished author. She has written 9 novels and 2 memoirscalled The Moral of the Story & Moral of the Story Part2. She illustrates and designs her own book covers and those of other authors. Karen writes Backstreet's feature stories for the Siuslaw news and other articles as well. Excerpts from her book The Moral of the Story, are published as a column in the Siuslaw News. She has also been a Jurist for the annual Northwest Writer's Association competition twice. A ray of sunshine, a drop of rain, egrets and child’s smile are but a few of her inspirations that motivate her artistry in art pieces, composing or writing.
