New Artists Have Joined Backstreet Gallery

There are new fall colors displayed at Backstreet Gallery, 1421 Bay Street through the four newest members of Backstreet.

Muriel Wilhelmi * watercolor, George Lewis * Oil, Jayne Smoley * Fused GlassGeorge Lewis returns to Backstreet displaying his unusual textural style of painting with oils. This ex Boston Red Sox player and stockbroker has real talent for capturing light as he sculpts his oils in rich peaks of colors.

Pure Fusion is Jayne Smoley’s title for the beautiful fused glass pieces she fashions. The keys to her one-of-a-kind glass creations are color, form and lines inspired through textiles and architecture. Light literally bounces through her kiln-formed glass work. She is a member of the Oregon Glass Guild, and has worked in and taught many art forms.

Muriel Wilhelmi’s polished style with transparent watercolor reflects her life-long interest in drawing and painting. She is a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon. In addition to being representational and serene, her paintings have won many awards and ribbons. She and her husband owned the Village Art Gallery when they lived in Mendocino.

Mary Beers * BeaderThe new jewel of Backstreet is Mary Beers who fell in love with bead work as a child when she thought the seed beads were so “tiny and pretty”. She made her first bead loom when she was only 12 years old. Her glamorous work is distinctive in it’s style and a real addition to Backstreet’s collection of unique pieces of art.

These artists join 21 other local artists whose remarkable art fills Backstreet Gallery with fresh appeal. Special opportunities to enjoy their work include the Artist and the After Hours evening of entertainment on November 24th, 5-7PM. Refreshments will be served.
